Madelia Splash Pad Announcement
On behalf of the Madelia Community Foundation’s Splash Pad Committee, we are excited to announce our decision to change directions and move the splash pad site to the pool area of Watona Park.
Madelia’s historic flooding this summer and City Hall’s pursuit of a park master plan to mitigate some of the flooding concerns while reconfiguring amenities at the park led us to this opportunity.
The new goal will be to use the splash pad as a replacement for the kiddie pool and keep it in the general vicinity of the campground, pool, and park. We hope to possibly start construction as early as next year. Partnering with the City on a centralized location makes your donation go farther by:
- Creating greater access to numerous amenities all in one place for community members and visitors
- Opening up additional grant opportunities
- Leveraging City funding and staff time already dedicated to re-developing the park due to historic flooding
- Addressing concerns some community members shared about increased traffic at the original site
- Giving you recognition for your donation in a place likely to be seen by more people
The splash pad will be one part of a larger plan to make Watona Park more modern and more resistant to flood damage. We are excited to join forces with the City to create a reimagined recreational space for us all to be proud of and use.
We cannot wait to share the details as the plan develops for this exciting next chapter of Watona Park and our Community. We thank you for your donation and commitment to bettering our recreation amenities.
